Hebrew School Without the Bricks and Mortar
Amongst the many difficulties plaguing supplementary Jewish education today is that students often don’t show up to class. Class time is already at a premium; synagogues from both the reform and conservative movements have cut back the number of days and hours that students attend in order to both accommodate the desires of the members as well as to stay “competitive” with neighboring synagogues and thereby remain attractive to members and potential members.
Tzedakah, Tikkun Olam and Gaming: a New Vision for pre-B'nai Mitzvah Jewish Education
Am Yisrael Congregation's School of Jewish Studies will be cutting edge with Tzedakah by collaborating with inspiring and innovative organizations. We will be using core principals of Judaism in inspiring relevant ways for a new generation of learners. For our pre-B'nai Mitzvah students, we will attempt to inspire them to choose causes to give portions of their gifts to worthy causes.
Creating the Jewish Enrichment Center
The Jewish Enrichment Center is an innovative Jewish after school for children Nursery 3 through 2nd grade! The Jewish Enrichment Center is also open Sunday mornings for infants through Grade 2. We opened our doors only weeks ago, and already, the community is full of enthusiasm for the kind of Jewish engagement we're offering families. The best way to understand what we do is to see us in action, either in person or on our blog, at jewishenrichment.org.
Interactive Quests
As the technology coordinator at the Sager Solomon Schechter Middle School and a religious school educator for more than thirty years, I'm always on the lookout for a way to authentically integrate technology into education.
My iChallenge project is really more of a set of projects which I hope will act as a kind of paradigm shift in creating interactive quests for schools and informal education environments.
